Informed Voluntary Consent For Human Evaluation Survey

Research Title: Modelling Students' Source Code Evolutions To Provide Personalised Guidance During Practical Activities In Introductory Programming Courses

Invitation to participate, and benefits: You are invited to give consent and participate in a human evaluation survey for personalized hints generated by an LLM model based on source codes from CSC1015/7/9F for a research study conducted with university students doing programming. The study aims to provide personalized problem-solving guidance in introductory programming courses by modelling changes in code submissions over time. The study's main objective is to simplify practical tasks and learning programming for first-year students and with previous work, a model was developed that shows the trajectory in learning and matches similar student approaches to generate related hints

Procedures: During this study, you are expected to review the student codes and solution/goal codes displayed on top of the survey questions. Then carefully read the generated hints under each level and evaluate their relevance, clarity, and applicability to the task.

Risks: There are no potentially harmful risks related to your participation in this study.

Feedback: The study’s outcome and recommendations will be shared on ZivaHub at the end of my project. The research dissertation will be made available through the UCT Open Access Policy.
